Joe MacDonald

Joe, born in Barrow-in-Furness Cumbria, started riding when he was 12 years old despite his family always having horses. At 12 years Joe joined the local pony club and during his time there came 3rd individually at the area competition and qualified for the Dengie Winter League Finals at Stoneleigh in addition to qualifying for the National Dressage Finals. Joe started BSJA aged 15 years and in his first season won the overall points for Area 14a for Members Cup and Junior Open Classes. During his final junior year, Joe produced 2 ponies through to J.A level placing in several national championships.

Joe studied at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire gaining his BSc Equine Science degree and has trained with Roland Fernyhow, Nick Burton as well as other top riders. After leaving Hartpury Joe was involved in BBC’s Only Fools on Horse’s in aid of Sports Relief where he met Tim Stockdale and went on to work for him as a stable jockey. Taking all that he learnt from Tim and after selling his top horse to Robert Smith, Joe moved to Gloucestershire where he set up his own business successfully producing young horses for sale and on behalf of clients.

Joe is now based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire with first class training and livery alongside his training business.

Joe is very excited to be part of the CROWN training team and aims to provide enjoyable and informative lessons so that our members get the most out of their horses. Joe has a natural ability to keep nervous riders calm and is extremely focused and passionate about Show Jumping.
